Latest video drivers for M17xR4 causing some minor problems with 3D Vision
I've noticed two minor (but still somewhat annoying) problems since I've installed the NVidia video drivers on the Dell support website for my M17xR4. The driver version is "296.16, A00" released 05/09/12.
- Sometimes 3D will go to the red/green instead of active shutter, and it will not list "Alienware 3D Vision notebook" as an option in the NVidia control panel. It is fixed on "3D Vision Discover". I have to reboot my system for the option to come up again. I think I have figured out what causes this problem. I copied the icons on my desktop for "Enable 3D Vision" and "Disable 3D Vision" for easy access, because I don't always have my 3D glasses with me. If I shut down my system after disabling 3D vision, it will not allow active shutter 3D the next time I turn on my laptop. I will have to enable 3D vision and reboot in order to use 3D. This was not a problem with the previous driver version that came with my system.
- Alt-tabbing out of a full-screen 3D game causes an odd effect where your desktop can be seen in your left eye, but is blank or extremely dim in the right eye. My work around is to hit CTRL-T while in the game to switch it out of 3D mode, then alt-tab. But it is still frustrating when I forget to hit CTRL-T, because I have to switch back to the game, switch out of 3D, then switch back again. This was also not a problem with the previous driver version that came with my system.
