M17xR4 No Display after pressing WiFi button on top row...
This has happened to me a few times now, and is strange...
I reinstalled Windows on my M17xR4, and had a problem connecting to the internet - Wireless adapter was disabled. I pressed the WiFi button above my keyboard to try and turn it on, and my screen suddenly went black. (WiFi did turn on) Nothing I did would restore the video feed to the display.
Through much difficulty, I WAS able to get an external monitor working -- basically as soon as my laptop POSTs, I have to quickly press Fn+F6, and heaven forbid I miss that small window of opportunity, because Fn+F6 does not work while and after it has booted to Windows. It really *** when Windows decides to uodate in the middle of the night and reboot.
After Windows finishes booting up, I can press Fn+F6 - the external display remains on, but the laptop display only lights up .... nothing else.
I've tried everything I could think of to get my display working, ran the system diagnostics (which fails because I do not get the horizontal or vertical lines -- but the display will flash solid colours after that point). I finally gave up hope, and ran it connected permanently to an external display.
Just the other day, after a power outage, I booted up the laptop and the display was working...but WiFi was not.
After messing with that for a few hours, trying to get it to work, I caved and pressed the wireless button **poof** no display.
Is there something under that location on the motherboard that is being pressed on when I press there and that's what's killing it? I tried removing the small wireless card at one point thinking that might be causing a conflict or something -- nada.
I have no idea what else to try..

I forgot to mention that it is well out of warranty...and spending $500+ CDN to get it repaired is not feasible at this time (that is what I was quoted by a Dell CSA)
