after installing it search for Creative App like Recon 3D. maybe you have similar Options there.
Edit:
i have to admit that i didn't read your Posts carefully. it was in the Middle of the Night and i was really tired. i just wanted to leave my Screenshot here to show you what you should look for. i should have noticed long Time ago that you have Creative Sound Card instead of Realtek. i meen it's right there in the Opening Post and your Screenshot shows it too.... lol
Is it like a static/buzzing type of sound? Is your system running the latest Bios version A11 (You can check your Bios version on the "MSinfo32" system summary window)?
Thank you for confirming this. Please right click on the speaker icon on your windows taskbar and select the "playback devices" option. You should see a list of the playback devices, try setting the speakers as the default device and then test the sound again.
Speakers is set to default and sound is coming from both laptop speakers and headphones. Also same results if I choose test for 'Speakers'. When I try to TEST 'Digital Output', I do not hear any output however the bar does move up as if it were playing somewhere. Also, if I change 'Digital Output' to default, there is no change, sound still comes from both places and the bar next to 'Speakers' continues to move up and down, however at that point I can no longer control volume with volume buttons on the laptop.
my Realtek Chip has this Feature which can be Enabled / Disabled in the Realtek Audio Settings. double Click on the Realtek Audio Icon in the Taskbar, then open Info Menu. i have an "i" in the lower right Corner of the Realtek Menu but it could be also in the upper right Corner.
well you should have something installed. apparently you downloaded and installed "Realtek ALC3661 Audio codec Driver". open Windows Control Panel and see if you can find something there.
my Screenshot above is from my Asus H170 Pro Gaming Motherboard and not an Alienware Machine. it should show you what you are looking for.
some Devices have an Option in BIOS Settings which can switch the Audio Device from HD to AC97. if you pick AC97 then your Audio Chip behaves exactly like yours. usually the Option can be found in Advanced Menu of the BIOS Settings.

your m18x R2 has Creative Sound Blaster Audio Card and not Realtek one.
uninstall all RT Audio Drivers, then download and install Creative Sound Blaster Driver here:
Support for Alienware M18x R2 | Drivers & downloads | Dell US
after installing it search for Creative App like Recon 3D. maybe you have similar Options there.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
No sound quality is fine both through headphone / speakers and internal speakers. Its just coming from both places at the same time.
Yes BIOS was already updated to A11.

No, I had tried that beforehand.

I do not have a Realtek, icon or any software installed that I could find. Could that be the issue?

i have no Idea whats going on with your RT Panel.
some Devices have an Option in BIOS Settings which can switch the Audio Device from HD to AC97. if you pick AC97 then your Audio Chip behaves exactly like yours. usually the Option can be found in Advanced Menu of the BIOS Settings.
