New Alienware 14 left keyboard not lighting up

Hi,

I purchased the new alienware 14 and right out of the box the left side and center of the keyboard doesn't light up. All others are fine.

Finally all lights are working, it seems that light status board (a small board adjacent to touchpad) was faulty and replacing it did the trick. So now all the lights work :)

Hi lahsivjar,

This can be a settings issue in Aline FX.

  • In the Alien Command Center window, click AlienFX.
  • Select the lighting zone you would like to change.
  • Use the color selector to select the required color.

If the issue persists, follow the below mentioned steps to resolve the issue:

Update BIOS to latest version from the following link:

http://dell.to/12xVo6M

  • During BIOS update verify that the computer is connected to an AC Adapter.
  • Disconnect any third party peripherals connected to the computer before performing BIOS update.
  • Do not turn off the computer during the BIOS update.
  • Do not restart the computer during the BIOS update.
  • Ensure battery charge is more than 30% during BIOS update.

Note: Plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.

Now create a new AlienFX theme:

- Open the AlienFX Editor in Command Center:

- Access the Theme tab in the upper left corner of the AlienFX Editor and choose the New Theme Option to create a new theme:

Save the new theme at the location and name of your preference by selecting the Save Theme option:

- Reinstall the latest Alienware Command Center from the following link:

http://dell.to/16NvJYz

If needed, create a new AlienFX theme again.

Awaiting your response!

Hi,

Selecting and changing the lighting zone doesn't do any thing for the affected zones for other it works fine. I have also noticed that all the keys in the top row light up but below that the central and left keyboard region doesn't work. As for the bios update I will try it and let you know the results as soon as I have some spare time, maybe next week. I think that it is because of faulty hardware because all other regions are perfectly fine.

It's my first alienware and it is a bit disappointing to have such a issue, though I will try what I can and hope for the best.

I did the alienware command center reinstall but it did not solve the problem, also I noticed another strange issue. The zone 4 works with default blue light but does not change color also the zone 5 does not light up at all.

Now there's another issue popping up. The left tron light at the base of the laptop keeps blinking in green color from time to time even when alienfx is in go dark mode. It's been 12 days and I am still waiting for my warranty tag transfer. It's really annoying :(

I just bought two of these and both systems have problems. One of the systems has this same problem with the keyboard. The other one has multiple problems.  :(
