No Audio Sound

Hello to all,

I've had my Alienware X51 R2 for about 2 years without any problem, but it just randomly stopped playing sound, It says that there are no "Audio Output Devices Installed" which makes no sense because when I go to my Device Manager all my Audio Devices are there and installed, "they have exclamation marks next to them but they are still installed". I have literally checked over 15 websites for an answer but none of them were able to answer my question, I have no clue what happened other than than that exclamation mark next to them, I just don't know what it means. If anyone could help me with my problem it would be much appreciated :).

PS. I have a Windows 8

Having the Driver with a Yellow Exclamation mark sitting right next to it, means the computer 'knows' which hardware device it is. The problem is that the driver is not installed properly. Or it stopped working properly and needs to be re-installed.

I'd go ahead and remove completely and perform a clean installation (Not just install ontop of the faulty driver). To try and have that taken care of.

Let me know how it goes.

I went ahead and uninstalled the faulty driver data, how would I install my drivers back, would I need to reboot my system?

Here are the drivers for your computer.

Naturally if we are missing the Audio Driver, look for the Audio Category you will see it listed there.
"Realtek Audio Driver".

-Download it
-Install it

If that still doesn't take care of the driver you will have to install it manually.
And yes, after the installation of that driver, the Wizard Installer will ask you to restart your computer.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Nope, nothing. I think that something is wrong with the computer itself, in the device manager all of my drivers have that error symbol next to them.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled all of my faulty drivers nothing worked, by drivers I mean all of them, my microphone driver has an error, my audio drivers have an error, my headset also has an error.

I tested the microphone I use for my gaming computer on my work laptop and it works perfectly fine, I also tested my headset on my laptop and it works like a charm.

Please, if you know any other options that I could try i'd be extremely grateful.

It's been over a week! Does anybody have any clue what's wrong with my computer, I have important stuff on it and I really don't want to return it.

Have those tags next to every device makes me think you have corrupted the drive or picked up some type of virus. Have you scanned your system for a virus? Not sure how you removed your sound driver but all you needed to do was in Device Manager right click on the device and select uninstalls. Then restart the computer and Windows should have reinstalled the driver automatically. If this still doesn't work, go into System Administrator and select Run as Administrator. This will open a DOS window. At the Prompt type in SFC/scannow and hit enter. This will allow your system to check all its windows drivers etc... and either repair them or tell you it was unable to repair them.

Ok, I did all the things you told me to do. The first one didn't work but after that I ran cmd as administrator and typed SFC/scannow and it started to load, and when it finished it said it was only able to fix some of the problems. (It didn't work) When I uninstalled the drivers and restarted my computer it didn't work either. I tried to take a screenshot of my Device Manager but that didn't work, and a window popped up saying something's wrong with my DirectX. Please tell me you have any other ideas.

Not sure if you scanned for a virus or not. If not do a scan but I think you have a different issue............... Not sure if you tried a restore point. Go back to a known date that all worked................. You say you have W8. Is it W8 or W8.1? If you do not have W8.1 installed then install it. This will restore the Window's drivers etc that were not fixed with SFC/Scannow.................... If your issues started after doing Windows updates it might be because you downloaded all the downloads at once. You should only down load like type downloads, restart and continue to down load like type updates........................ Above all else, all .net updates should be installed separately with a computer restart for each one............. You can try repairing W8........................ www.google.com/search ............................. You can try to reinstall prior window updates ................... www.google.com/search ............................ You can also try to clean out the registry with various registry cleaners. I use IOLO System Mechanic. There are others that are free however and some claim they do a good job. Google registry cleaners........... For future thought. Invest in a backup software programs such as Acronis true Image and regularly clone your current drive to another backup drive. You have more that one ard drive bay in your computer so this would be very easy to do. Always clone your drive before doing updates or after having made inputes that would be hard to redo if lost by any failure or corruption to drive. Good luck.
