Return policy for alienware 17r2? also overheating maybe a fix?

60 – 70 degrees is not consider as overheating however you can use HWinfo64 to speed a little bit the fans or you can contact the technical support site in your country so they can check the system for you.

The return policy states that you can return the system within the first 21 days of the purchase but if you need further information you can contact the returns department.

Flash/install the A00 BIOS and see what happens. There have been some complaints about the fans not working as well on A02 or A01 compared to A00.

I have the same problem, bought AW 17r2 2015 from dell México, i´ve tried to contact technical support but keep getting a recording in portuguese and then the call ends, also chat and email contact is not possible since it says theres no current support for my product yet.

It´s been only a month since i got this computer and temperatures at idle get between 65° to 70°, fans have only started one time when hitting more than de 80° and don´t seem to work well, since they only start for a few seconds, also the fans seem to have very low rpm. take note that i havent played a demanding game (just age of empires).

i also got the extended guarantee but it seems worthless since there is no technical support available.

I also have AW 17R2. There's something wrong with thermal readings. I got anything between 60-90deg under load. It takes a second for CPU to drop from 90 to 60 when switching back to idle.Check below how sensors records temperature, I've ran wprime for 10 seconds. It doesn't make sense that temperature raises and drops that fast.

but 60-70C is normal temperature when not gaming? I have also the same problem. and the keyboard gets hot too, based on your alienware site the cooling system of this laptop is good. but its worse

60°C without gaming is a normal temperature(due to the intel turbo boost). is true, the fans only work when the cpu reach 70°C or more, but if you want to solve the problem, you only need to put something in the back of the lap to let him breathe. in my case i was having 80-82°C while playing btf4 (this is normal) but when i put the cheapest cooler of genius the temperatures was reduced 10 °C.

the problem is that the base panel dont let that the SSD, the HDD and ram take air and the heat produced by them pass through the keyboard.

I belive that is not right! Today after almost 2 months use my AW 17r2 died when I have been playing the game (laptop shoot down suddenly)! My mind it could happen due to laptop worked under overheating at that I used cooling pad but it not helped to me! Temperature was between 65C and  max (time to time) 85-88C!!!! For this moment no signs of life! VERY SAD! I think cooling system was not calculated right! Good luck evryboby!,

I have the same Alienware. ashamed to say it. Mine overheats just sitting on the table idle over night. when it does this it crashes and dosent recognize any of the hard disks. I have to put it in front of the air conditioner to cool it in order to start it up. Had a tech come to my house and swap out the old hard drive for a new one, also got a new bigger power supply. so now its a heavier paperweight. Ashamed to say my dell running windows 8.1 put this "gaming" laptop to shame. hoping i can find some sucker to buy it from me

relax man.. i can help you with the overheating. my shutdown problems finished when they send me the 240W power supply. and i solved for my own the heat problem. i change the thermal paste from a not brand thermal paste (Dell Paste) with a really god brand paste (IC Diamond 7) install the A00 and your problem will be solved. If you want to know how to do it, i can help you. it take like 45 min the process

I would like to think that you actually checked the laptop specs before buying? Finding out that it doesn't have an optical drive only when you receive it in the mail isn't probably Dell's fault.

I am no longer displeased with the over heating for this laptop. However I did have a major problem with my laptop . It won't boot due to ram error. Thankfully alkenware tech support helped. Amazing support. But yes I am upset about that but it's not their fault the ram messed up.

Honestly.. after reading all these comments.. i dont think ill be buying one

I agree. I was just given the go from my company to purchase one, and I am really concerned by the number of folks not happy with the newest model.
