Steam Machine yellow blinker of death
I got an i7 Steam Machine yesterday, and it has already stopped working. I haven't owned a console since the Gamecube and I'm not sure if I've gotten so excited about a new possession since the nineties, so I'm kind of upset by this.
First time I powered it up, it worked fine. Downloaded some updates, started downloading game, then I hit the power button. It installed some updates and powered itself down.
Second time, the power light flashed yellow in sets of five flashes. I couldn't find much about what this means, but someone suggested doing a power drain, so I did that. It worked and I downloaded a game, started another download, and played the first game for a while.
Third time I powered it up, it worked fine. I started it on another download, turned the TV off, and I went to work hoping it would be done when I got back.
When I got home, it was off. A little distressing at first, but I found out my roommate turned it off, assuming I left it on by accident. I then tried to turn it on, but got the yellow light flashing in sets of five again. I tried a power drain a few times with no luck. I took the power cord off the surge protector and plugged it directly into a wall outlet, and that didn't help either.
What does it mean when it flashes in sets of five? What could I do to fix this?

Hi,
The five flashes could indicate a CMOS battery failure or possibly a motherboard failure. It may be best to send it in to our repair facility so they diagnose and repair the issue. For assistance with this, send me a PM with your service tag.

Please help! This is happening to me, too! The power light flashes yellow, blue then yellow five times. :(

I've found a workaround. If I leave mine unplugged overnight, it will turn on more-or-less properly. It will flash amber once, then turn on. Then, I just don't turn it off til I'm certain I'm done with it that evening. Eventually I will get around to unearthing the CMOS battery to attempt replacing it (seems like a cheap part but it's the single hardest-to-reach thing in the entire machine), or I might just send it in to be fixed. For now, though, it works well enough this way.

I just bought an ID machine as well used it one time, tried to use it again and now it's doing the five yellow flashes. How can I get this fixed? Or who can I talk to?

Hello, I just stumbled on this forum while researching a similar problem with a Steam Machine game system that I bought for my kids last month. My kids went to turn their Steam Machine on and it will not come on. It keeps flashing a yellow/orange light. A few days ago the same thing happened and I unplugged the power cord from the machine for a few minutes and plugged it back in and the machine turned on. That is not working this time now. What do I do? I can not find the reciept for Gamestop so I doubt they will do an exchange. I will be calling them next. Right now I am leaving the power cord unplugged to see if it will somehow make it work again. Any suggestions or whatever would be much appreciated!
