The Alienware 17 R3 is fantastic (some review)

6700k 970M all games no AA but with 16x AF

Dota 2 works in 4k with all the settings on playable.

Project Cars works maxed out. (better than any console and I was on keyboard catching up to people because it was so playable with the Formula A but I kept spinning out at times because it's impossible to do w/o the wheel/pedal set I have on the main PC).  The graphics are so photorealistic they look better than the prerendered GT5 PS3 models in showroom mode and the FPS is Playable on the fastest car in the game.

Planetside 2 works at 1080p very playable even under big battles on Ultra

TF2 works but lags a bit at 4k so 1080p with no Vsync and it's like being at home on the desktop

Insurgency work at 4k maxed playable

CS GO works playable 4k

The only down fall with the system is it takes like 2 minutes to boot from a cold start.  I tried disabling startups to find out what is making it take so long and even messing with every single setting in the bios but it all made no difference.  I have the 128gb SSD preconfigured.

The soundcore3D from sound blaster is a must as I have the ZxR on my main PC and been with sound blaster ever since.  The crystalizer the eq matter a lot.  The PC comes with a SUB that isn't part of anything under 17".  I missed it as the PC I had wayyy back had it on the Dell XPS M1710.

It comes with a killer e2400 and 1535.

Any one who makes PCs from way back knows both those chipsets on a card cost at least $120 each.

The screen dell chose to use is a 17" IGZO 4k panel.  IGZO 4k 2 years ago used to cost over $5k.

Skylake is great as I can use it like an ultrabook.

It's great how they made the PC 20% smaller so it's more portable.

I had the Asus ROG laptop back when it was 760M and I didn't like it as it was too big.  It was also just 1080p.

I had numerous laptops like the MSI gaming one when it had a 360M GT.  I had went to a netbook because I felt I didn't need a laptop but it was so slow even with SSD.  I then got an E6410 on ebay and put SSD but it was still slow.  I went inspiron 7700 4k and toshiba 4k laptops and the Dell does it so much better so I chose to stick with dell.

It's so good to be back to a real mobile gaming laptop.  The keys feel great and have some concave curvature to them that the pictures online never show.  The laptop doesn't get to hot.  I heard the 980Ms have thermal issues because of the design so I chose to stick with 970M.

970M is well high on the list on notebook check.  It's way faster than 765M SLI (Alien 18) and even 860M SLI (Alien 18).   You can even performance compare at GPUboss which I did for the past 2 weeks while waiting for the laptop.  Even youtube vids.  I compared with 960 GTX because they are nearly identical.

Oh, and the screen quality is better than the XL2420G which I am on now which is TN.  The colors are very deep and bright.  The black level is deep black, not washed out from backlight.  It's not a full black like OLED where if you are in pure darkness you can see no backlight.  There is backlight when it's full black like a TN but when the screen is filled with things going on the black levels are pure black.  All the colors look good.  It's IPS.

I didn't have to install anything when I got the laptop.  All I had to install was the intel display driver as the version it came with showed windows as a 10 preview in it's software.  It shows 10 Home properly now.

All the other softwares and bios were latest.  All I had to do was install the steam games : )
and I was up and running!!

I think the time to buy a laptop is now, because of skylake, the Dell IGZO 4k, and 970m being affordable.
