The same probleme here , after 3 and a half years, the left hinge crack.
Also Alienware M14x R2 in Romania, East Europe bought by a friend for USA. The sad thing is that Dell is like any another big corporation who do not take, or take responsibility as they wish, based on the media impact that it has on the subject. Look what happend in auto field with some cars model. The another sad thing is the Alienware has a problem with the plastic itself. The material has a structure that gets tired quickly.
And I say that as an owner of another Dell laptop series Studio, bought at least 6 years ago, as the first generation i7 processors and i used it very hard and even until today I do not have any problem with the hinges or anything else. Preheat a little above average but thats it I wonder how it is possible that an Alienware where the price is clearly higher, material quality is inferior ?. We know that they are made in China, but still pay thousands of dollars on them, It would be decent to repair at Dell an acceptable price, not 400 dollar. I repare my self with 74 dollar, and so I tested the plastics quality that is extremely brittle/breakable. Shame on them for this mockery! Best regards guys, and good luck with the repair.
I apologize for my English!

Based on our past M14x service history, there was not a systemic hinge fault.
* Go back to the top of the Alienware Forum board
* Open FAQ Alienware
* Open "Alienware Laptops: Hinge Policy"

Do a little search on google and you find hundred, if not thousands of left hinges problem on this model some of them after 6 month old, and always the left one. You can not open a laptop until you put your thumb in the middle and lift up. How, in your opinion, I cam damage the hinge (and not after 3 or 4 years) on 6 month? It is impossible. The only thing you can do is to smash it on the ground so in that case both hinges break, and the cover, and the screen. So please do not insult my intelligence with your wooden tongue. Please excuse my angry. And one more thing, I have a diploma of mechanical engineer. So please thanks for your time to read this!

Per the Forum Terms of Use restrictions, we cannot allow political or government discussion on this Forum. Yes, they may have posted on the internet, but the majority of them did not come to us while under the purchased warranty period to get the hinge fixed. We only base our policy on how many services were done. Our stance is that hinges fall under the wear and tear policy.
