Upgrading M17x R4 GPU and monitor replacement
Hi Alienware club,
I am currently using m17x R4 early 2012. I do really want to change my GPU because I felt my GPU AMD 7970M is not compatible enough and I am not satisfy with only 1600x900 resolution. Is it possible change the screen to 120 HZ 1080 and also upgrading my gpu by dell engineer? Thank you.

You can switch to the NVidia 780m it was validated for this system and it will give you a good performance.
On regards to the 120 Hz LCD, yes you can change it but we don't have those spare parts available, you'd need to acquire them from a 3rd party and take it to a local store.

Is it ok to switch to NVidia 880m? So I have to go to 3rd party to do the upgrade for GPU?

Yes you can switch to the 880m and yes you might need to get it from a 3rd party.

i don't recommend you the gtx 880m, because it have a lot of heating problems... and die quickly. i recommend you a gtx 970m or a gtx 980m i see some people that did it and work fine. you will find the upgrade kit on a page named eurocom (
)
