Upgrading X51 from Bios A01 with Windows 8

Hello folks,

I am currently running my X51 with Win 8 under Bios A01 with no problems (apart from the back USB slots not working)

I would like to upgrade to A12 but have heard that people with Win 8 are having all sorts of problems.,

Is it a case of 'if it aint broke dont fix it' or would you recommend I go ahead?  I understand i will have to go from 1 >6 >7 >12

Or should I wait for A13 and hope some of the bugs are ironed out.

Thanks in advance,

thehillchild

Hi thehillchild,

I would not recommend upgrading to the latest version of the BIOS, if the system is working without any issues with the current version. I suggest you to install the chipset drivers and check if, the two USB ports work. You can download the chipset drivers from the following link:
http://dell.to/Z1Zleh

You will need to uninstall all the USB Root Hubs listed in Device Manager and restart the system if the chipset driver installation does not enable the USB 3.0 ports.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Hello thehillchild,

The BIOS should be updated, that version has important updates for Windows 8, you might not be experiencing any issues right now, but you might run into a few in the future if the BIOS is not up to date.
