Upgrading memory from PC3-10600 to PC3-12800...or better?
Hello everyone...
I want to upgrade the memory on my system. I am currently running 6GB of PC3-10600 on my desktop...but wanted to see what else I could run.
My computer specs are as follows:
Intel Core i7-980X 3.33GHz Extreme Edition Six Core 12MB CPU
6x1GB 1333 128x64 Dual in-line memory module
2 GTX460 Graphics Card.
Not sure what else I should include. Thanks!!!

Thank you. Dell doesnt sell any thing higher that 1333mhz. Any manufactures you recommend...Corsair? Also is 6GB of 1866 comperable to 12GB of 1600?

You can run 6gb or 12gb of 1600mhz or 6gb of 1866mhz like I'm running.

It's less RAM of course but the trade off is a little more speed. The speed is not something you will really notice but it does show up in benchmarks. When you put the faster RAM with other upgrades then it can add up to something you can notice. When I got my system I upgraded to the faster RAM, SSD drives in RAID0, faster GPU's in 3-way SLI, extra cooling and more aggressive overclocking. As a whole it was like night and day. 6gb is also more then enough RAM if all you really do is gaming. If you run something like Photoshop a lot then the extra RAM would be the way to go.
I went with Corsair myself. They have a lifetime warranty with great support. I think they also look really cool.
