Want to upgrade X51 Video Card

Afternoon,

My current rig is a:

Alienware X51 BTO
Intel Core i7-3770 3.4GHz (8MB Cache) with Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost Technology 2.0
16GB (2 X 8GB) Dual Channel DDR3 up to 1600MHz
1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
330W External Power supply

The video card I'm eyeing is the 770 GTX ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127747) but uncertain about the power supply. This card requires roughly 230 watts but some of the other version are upwards towards 400/500 watts.

My question is can an X51 even upgrade to a larger power supply and card seeing as its such a tiny tower??? Thank you so much for the help!  Want BF4 on ultra and right now its borderline on high settings.

Hi LordMongoose. The graphics cards we have tested and recommend on this computer are the GT 545, GTX 555, GTX 640 and GTX 660. If you were to upgrade it, take into consideration the power consumption for it needs to be 150W or less. You can check on the NVIDIA website the specifications for their video cards.

Thank you all for the responses. And I'm not computer expert but that is one of my main questions, because the cards you listed is based off the default 330 watt power supply but am I able to upgrade to like a 600 watt power supply and get a better card?

That 770 will have an 8 pin and 6 pin power sockets I bet.  So yes you'd need an external power supply.  Not only that the card your looking at is not a reference card, so your bound to have heating issues inside the case.  I went for a reference  Zotac 760 GTX 4GB and it runs just fine off the 330 w psu.  Not quite 60 fps on Ultra for BF4 all the time, but good enough.
