discreet graphics card/hybrid graphics

I purchased my Alienware M17x with the nvidia graphics card. When I received my Free upgrade to Windows 7 I was no longer able to even initiate that Card. Is there a fix coming for this or should I expect an upgrade to this card?

Anyone have any ideas or words of wisdom?

Currently, you can go to the Dell Driver Support site, chose your machine,  and download the Nvidia driver provided 186.64 (i think that's the number) ... this driver will recognize the Nvidia 260/280. HOWEVER, you will not as of yet be able to install the latest Nvidia driver from Nvidia which is currently 19x. it'll just say there is no hardware for the driver to update. So unless Dell continues to TWEEK the Nvidia drivers to recognize the 260/280 , we're stuck with the 18x they currently provide.

It's my understanding that you can turn off the Hybrid graphics in the BIOS and turn on the 260/280 only then the Nvidia drivers will see it at the price of dramatically reduced battery life.

Microsofts current stance is Windows 7 will NOT be supporting Hybrid graphics natively in the OS, it's left up to 3rd parties, in this case Dell since Nvidia themself don't appear to be supporting it any further as well.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 64bit and the Dell Driver works the way it should.  I am able to used hybrid graphics.  Just make sure they are both enabled in the bios, install the Dell driver, and it should see both.

Thanks for the response.  I will begin the process of "upgrading".

Namaste,
