m18xR2 GPU upgrade
Before this Christmas my amd radon HD 7970m crossfire died, and im been looking for a upgrade for these. I reed somewhere that Nivida 780Ms seem to be the sweet spot for the R2 and that you can get 880Ms, but they have a ton of issues. You could also go 980Ms, but they can be a pain to get working properly.
Before Christmas I bought a R9 M290X 4GB Video Card MXM3.0 216-0847000 card on eBay but then later discovered that the crossfire bridge connection on the card was missing/not soldered on. I been wondering if I could actually solder out the crossfire connection from my broken board to the new ones if I bought another R9 M290X? any ideas if this is possible?
Or should a go with 2 780M which will cost med 700$? Is the there a cheaper alternative out there. I do want to go with AMD cards as I got the Heat Sinks and they cost a fortune on eBay. Any suggestion?

980's.. don't look back.. well worth it and honestly the kit I bought was much plug and play but paid over 2k cnd for it.. I ran 980M kit in my M18X R2 for few months , but 1 was probably 50% improvement over the dual 680's I had, and the 680's were 10-20 % over the original 7970's I had..
.. Ark Survival was my testing grounds .. not a benchmark program :)
as for the Xfire cable.. no guarantee it would even work with the port pending on video bios config on it if its enabled and has the ability to even do such.
780M's would be a slight improvement but the cost would stop me for the amount of improvement, but having a fried card to begin with .. its better then nothing ..
crossfire died? usually its primary card that fails, usually most just swap secondary over to primary heatsink and run it.. as primary
I started with a 3630QM 24 gig ram 2X 500 gig hdd's dual 7970's
when it died.. dual psu mod, overclocked 3920XM 32 gig ram 4 512 gig ssd's (samsungs) and 980m's oc'ed and modded bios .. ... since been replaced with X51 R3 :) again moddded out right away hahaha
