windows 10 along side Ubuntu on a Alienware R51

I have been spending the best part of last week reviewing all issues reported on various forums bu can't see to find a solution for getting the setup right. I have windows 10 installed on a new R51 and need Ubuntu to run alongside. I have a SSD and HDD wih the required partition to boot Ubuntu on the SSD and various other swaps etc setup. The installation from the USB stick configured wit Rufus as GPT worked fine, with the OS started straight away in install mode. Went through all the steps, manually configured the partitions. But rebooting the machine didn't show Ubuntu at boot, and went straight to Windows ( as most case reported on forums). Listing in Ubuntu the existing boot with efibootmgr shows a missing boot sequence B0001 and doesn't show ubuntu, even after doing a boot repair. There is a post there showing how to alter the boot list but I am not sure if it's applicable on that desktop Alienware R51 with UEFI.
