windows 10 upgrade for m17xr4
I have been looking forward to upgrading my 2 m17xr4 laptops with windows 10. i got the windows 10 notice that asked if i wanted to upgrade my machine a month or so ago. as you know it became active a week or so ago. I clicked on it and waited to do its thing assuming it was checking to see if there was going to be any trouble. It gave me the green light and i upgraded to windows 10.
About a hour or so later there it was. it boot fast and retained many of my programs. I then decided to plug in my headphones and listen to some pink Floyd. seems the software connection between my headphone jack and the rest of the machine is missing now.
my creative console is DOA along with all their goodies. At some point my laptop started to hang up until being able to use chrome ended. so i tried again to start my machine until the light blue screen came up and asked me if i wanted to easily roll back to 7 or try to reset it and keep my files. what it didn't say at that time was if i decide to reset my machine to 10 my choice to rollback to 7 will not easily appear anymore. I wasn't aware of dell deciding not to support the xr revisions until i went to their site and found out they didn't,. they did say it might not work and some parts might not respond correctly but if i wanted more information was to go to the windows 10 upgrade page.
There was nothing there for people that had reset their machine. so now i have some limited choices on being to copy what files i want then just reformat my hard drive and do a clean reinstall of windows 7 which will get rid of a lot of clutter on the hard-drive (windows 10 being one)

Ok .after sleeping on it I must apologize for my rant..mostly from frustration. Is there any viable options and if what might they be other than doing a can reinstall.

Thanks for your reply. My nvida drivers along with g force experience loaded perfectly. The driver for my soundblasrer recon3DI also loaded correctly. What didn't load was the creative console and the software connection to my input and output jacts. Other than that the machine runs awesome.

well if your upgrading from win7 alot of the drivers might not work and could be whats causing your issue, i had windows 8 on my m18X R2(same production year) and i had no issues what so ever even with the windows 8 creative sound blaster drivers.. or anyhting in general, but i read after the fact nvidia had a bad driver or some sort... maybe i was lucky but it runs 2 weeks now perfectly ..

So what did you end up doing? Using drivers from win 8.1 for your Sound Blaster 3di?
It's pretty irritating that the drivers for the sound card are OEM. I tried going to CREATIVE labs first to find the driver I need for win 10, but couldn't find it. They told me that I'd have to search Dell's support. I remember that I've done it in the past and couldn't find it, and, of course, they still don't have updated drivers for the sound card in the m17xr4.
It especially pisses me off that I didn't even WANT to upgrade to win 10 until I looked into all the incompatibilities such as this. After denying the update about 100x, Microsoft decided to force upgrade my PC while it was in Sleep Mode and I was sleeping myself. I was so angry when I woke up and saw it loading into win 10.
Anyway, I've been dealing without the use of my AUX ports for about 2 years now and I'm tired of it. Let me know what ended up working for you.
