Alienware Aurora M9700 - What can I do with it?

I have an almost new (almost never used) Alienware Aurora m9700 laptop bought from Alienware in 2006. Loots of money back then .

Anyway, I never used it so is practically brand new but it has the Windows Xp on it. I do not know if this is still a desirable item for some to sell it, so my question is: can Win10 be installed in this machine?

If yes, how it will perform? What about the drivers? Can I find the drivers for win10? My machine comes with all the Respawn recovery CD that will bring it to day 1, but is windows XP pro. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi AA7‌,

Unfortunately any other Windows version is officially supported by us.

Windows 10 will likely have some issues to install most of the drivers of the machine and you will need to look for them online on each manufacturer's website. We wouldn't recommend the installation. However, you can still try to get it working, and it would definitely help out with the sale.

Windows 10 is not likely to install on this for more than 10 reasons.

NX SLAT CMPXCHG16 and other required CPU features mean this will never run windows 8 or 10.

Windows 7 might be possible but it would be excruciatingly slow.

Ubuntu 12.04.5  or 16.04.3 would likely work fine.

Thank you guys for your reply. I was not looking to install windows 10 to resel it, mostly to se if I can make it more up to date today. Otherwise I will keep it as is, I have many Xp games that can be played on it.

i jsut realized that is sitting there doing nothing and wanted to give it a purpose.

is there a market for a such machine? Never tried to put it up for sale....
