Alienware, turn off tap to click with touchpad

What Alienware computer do you have?

Is it running 8.0 or 8.1?

Are you talking about Single-Tap to Open at item? Is Double-Tap to Open ok?

Windows 8.1 Pro.   The Touch Pad version where moving the mouse pointer causes clicking on items I do not want.  Seems like the manufacturier of the Touch Pad (Synaptics) believes Click to Tap is so popular, they do not allow other options.    Notice Synaptics does not make it easy for them to hear complaints either. 

Another item which is really annoying is mouse Zoom on some things in the Browser, which for some reason is not easy to find or turn off in Firefox.  

With both Click to Tap, and Zoom:  I see not reason for it to come enabled, and no reason why it is not easy to permanently turn off.

The driver for Touchpad I actually have, does not allow me to turn off the tap to touch.  Simply the driver program I have is different than the one shown in the Video.

The video suggests something about turning off the 'tap to click' by changing something in the Tap area size.   Does not work in the program which I have.    Another note says that if I turn off the Tap Area, only the buttons themselves will work to Click, this also does not work.  

The Synaptics driver Program initially provided for Windows 8.1 does not allow 'Tap to Click' to be turned off.  

Previously there was a link to another driver which allowed me to turn off the 'Tap to Click' which I got on this forum.  I have that driver, but it will not install because it complains of permissions issues.  The forum does not allow me to look far enough back to see what the link previously was.   So I had hoped you guys might have the link to the Synaptics driver which will allow me to turn it off.

I got an Alienware 13 from our Lab to test the touchpad driver and I came across the same issue. Tried several drivers, but the only one that installs properly is the one from our website.

Continuing my research, I came across to this video and it removes the "tap to click" functionality from the touchpad.

No joy.   On my screen with mouse touchpad options, at the bottom of the screen  all I have are the options to change the speed.  I do not have an option to stop the "Tap to Click."  

Might you see about somewhere the driver.   Synaptics_v17_0_19_C_XP32_Vista32_Win7-32_XP64_Win7-64_Acme_inc

Which is what I think I installed once before, and worked, but now the install attempt errors off.  

That driver is the latest driver shown on the Synaptics website. I used that one and it said "installation failed"

You could try three things:

1- Uninstall the Synaptics driver you have installed, restart the computer and try to modify the option shown on the video.

2- Download and install the Synaptics driver found on the Alienware 13 platform.

3- Use AlienRespawn to restore back to factory settings and start all over again.
