Latest nVidia driver disables screen brightness controls on AW15R3
About two weeks ago I installed a new NVidia driver on my AW15R3 GTX1070 with 60hz IPS G-sync display which I downloaded from the NVidia site. However, I noticed immediately that screen brightness went up to 100% and I was not able to turn it down. The 'OSD meter' however was still moving up and down when I used the FN key + F9/F10, but screen brightness remained 100%. So I rolled back the driver to the latest version supplied by Dell (376.89) and all was fine again.
However, when I used my laptop today, the new NVidia driver was installed automatically by Windows Updates and the screen brightness control problem returned. So I rolled back the driver update again, and again it was fixed.
But, how can I stop this driver from automatically updating by Windows Updates?
And, is Alienware support aware of the screen brightness control issues with the latest NVidia driver?

Hi pcraenme,
First of all, thanks for the information.
Only the drivers from our web page are those that have been validated, Nvidia can release a new driver but this does not mean that it is validated by DELL.
There is an option on the Geforce Experience app that will prevent Nvidia from installing the new driver.
Then for Windows updates, press WIN + X > System > Advanced System Settings > Hardware Tab > Disable the option to auto-install Windows Update drivers.

Thanks for the quick answer and tips. I already had the option in Geforce Experience disabled, but did not know about the Windows Advanced System Settings. I will try that!
