17 R4, Speaker audio crackling, chirping issue
Hi guys, I've been at this for hours, and no solutions that others have found to work seem to be working for me. This problem just started at random yesterday. I was listening to music on YouTube and all the sudden my right internal speaker started making this crackling/chirping sound. I had to mute the sound entirely because it would persist with all volumes, but soften as the sound lowered. Sometimes, even when the speakers were on mute it would persist at random for about 10 seconds, then stop.
I've tried almost everything that others have tried. A solution that I thought was working was when I changed Realtek Audio to High Definition. That stops the crackling sound, but at higher volumes it starts to sound choppy. With this HD setting, it also started to make problems with headphones in. The option before didn't seem to distort anything with headphones. I really don't want to use headphones 24/7, I enjoy listening through my speakers.
Others with this problem have been able to solve it without replacing anything internally. I'm looking for a solution to do the same.

Dear Tammy
I have tried the above procedure, with no success.
Please tell me how to proceed with the warranty or what should I do.
Thank you in advance.

removing audio drivers and replacing them with "high definition " basic ones that comes on windows stop the noise,
not a real fix but...

What is wrong with the Dell support that when an obvious widespread hardware/software issue with THEIR OWN technology appears their best advice is to turn it off and back on again? Then apparently they just pretend like it isn't happening anymore EVEN THOUGH no solution was ever found or is in sight. Instead they choose to let their customers continue with broken products that they don't plan on fixing because it would be easier to go away. This post was made almost 6 months ago and many other posts were made in other locations but hmm no one cares about it for more than 5 minutes even though it is an inherent problem? Is this a joke to you? I also have the same problem if you didn't guess, but who cares! clearly not the Dell/Alienware support team. I'm not even angry that this one specific problem that many people had wasn't solved, I'm angry because this happens with every single problem that comes into your hands. The only time these actually get solved is when the community is lucky enough to be blessed by OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS that also had the problem and managed to find a solution. Lucky us that someone was able to find a minor fix or we would all be listening to blaring sounds like our computer is about to explode and not knowing what to do. PLEASE FIX THIS

Hi
If you used different audio mix configuration setting for your external speakers and then used the same configuration for your laptop speakers and forgot to change to default...your speakers are probably dead

Have the same issue. No resolution even after waiting for a year for a fix via driver update and after tearing apart the internet. Alienware is known for messing up hardware but there's usually workarounds or something, but this is just unbearable! Thinking of selling this and going a different direction.

I got the same problem, this is so sad. I always wanted an alienware PC in my life and paid $2k for it and now that I had it for 1 year all these problems happened.
1. Annoying right Speaker noise
2. While I'm using my PC for anything, all of a sudden starts beeping and beeping. Unbelievable.( This happened because I left my laptop running overnight) still this is not normal.
I just build an gaming PC for my cousin, so trust me I have experience with computers And the reason why I got a alienware laptop is to taking it everywhere with me.
Honestly dell has to do something about this, if it was only one PC I get it. But it's all of us.
I will reinstall my operating system to see if the issues is fixed. If not than I have to replace my right speaker.

I have had the same issues plus the fact that my keyboard will leave out the first letter i type if i have not use it in a bit. I have contacted Dell many times and have had my computer looked at by them and never fixed anything, they have also replaced my speakers twice because the noise is so loud it blows the speakers EVEN IF THE SPEAKERS ARE MUTED! all i get is the run around by dell and they say i should upgrade to a new system..... i bought this Alienware 17 R4 in January 2018 so how new does it need to be? plus when the "fix" my computer by remote, my alienware command center will no longer work which means i have to speak with them again. i think the only "Fix" fir this loud static/ screeching sound is to remove the speakers forever and just use headphones. BUT i do love that i get emails from dell saying my warranty is about to expire and they will no longer be able to fix things without a cost to me... REALLY DELL? The one thing i must say is that i have never had good service for my laptop and i was stupid enough to buy another laptop for my elderly father just a week ago and it does not even work and i am still waiting for dell to contact me because i am not paying a tech fee when i have an extended warranty on it too. so good luck on getting a fix for the dell issues i wish everyone good luck.

Mine started doing this about 2 weeks ago. It's coming from the subwoofer module located behind / under the right speaker. Updated bios and drivers, checked configurations - still happening off and on. Seems random but persistent and no actions seem to trigger or remedy the issue. I'm considering unplugging this as I use external speakers mostly, but this shouldn't have to happen. I think Dell needs to dig deeper into diagnostics to figure out why this is such a widespread issue instead of the flowchart of troubleshooting reaching the end with no actual fix. First Alienware I've owned, and may be the last when its life is over.

For now, I resolved the issue by unplugging and removing the subwoofer module. The circuit that controls the subwoofer runs through the USB module. I do not know if this is where the power comes from, or if it is just a pass through circuit. In either case, removing the subwoofer module did resolve the issue for now. I would suspect the speaker is fine, and that this issue is more closely related to the sound card or USB circuits. After updating the audio drivers, and receiving several BIOS updates, the issue remained, so this was my final recourse.
I found a good video tutorial here for anyone who wishes to follow this same path. Be extra careful if you have the additional SSD 1, 2, or 3 modules installed. They are small and easy to overlook and not covered in this video.

This will also give you access to the front speakers if one of these is damaged and needs replacing.
