13 R3, USB Type-C portable monitor not recognized

Hello,

I recently got an MSI Optix MAG161V portable monitor. It can connect to the back of my Alienware 13 R3 with a single USB Type-C cable for both power and video output.

But, the USB drivers seem to be having trouble with it. 50% of the time I get a "device not recognized" a minute or so after the monitor is plugged in. The monitor still works, but my graphics performance slows down considerably. Microsoft Excel, of all problems, becomes unusable.

I tried to look for drivers but I get can "Access Denied" when I click on my Serivce Tag in my dell product portal  - as far as I know all my drivers are up to date.

Anyone else run into this?
