Update = The Built-in diagnostics failed to run. DELL-Cares has setup a monitor exchange.
Johnno, the term they used, "service" is confusing. Dell does not service a monitor. We do not send a technicain out to disassemble a monitor and replace a part. We simply exchange the monitor while still under warranty.
Which model Alienware? One thing you might try is. Unplug the power from the wall. Hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. Plug the power back in and try it again. If the computer is only a month old, it's still under warranty so you could give Alienware support a call. The couple times I have called them I always got a tech that knows what they are talking about and speak and understand English very well.
Hi @Johnno welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Just to clarify, the issue is with the Dell Monitor S3320DGF . The laptop is working fine but there is no display on the monitor, including the one screen display menu. Have tried changing HDMI cables but no change.
Thanks for your suggestion but that didn't change anything
Hello I am using the HDMI cable supplied with the Monitor. I did try another HDMI cable but no change. It appears that whatever we try the monitor screen does not work properly.
I have tried connecting the monitor to an Apple TV outlet with no change to the monitors output.
Support for Dell S3220DGF Drivers & Downloads has two drivers. Are both installed on the Alienware 17 R5 laptop?
Your Dell S3220DGF monitor has a self-test feature that allows you to check if your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test. If the monitor is working correctly, it will say if HDMI signal is detected. (Dell S3220DGF Monitor User's Guide - Troubleshooting, page 51.)
Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.
I have received the Monitor today and it is working fine-thank you.
However I was unable to locate the power cable (all the other USB/HDMI cables were in the internal tray), so I am using the power cable from the old monitor.
Are you able to tell me where it would be in the box? I have looked but I am mindful that the old monitor is to be packed into it so I'm not ripping open the cardboard sections.
All four cables are in the same tray that you see having opened the lid of the transit container, see video Here. Power cable is included and might have moved during transit, but it is not intentionally hidden.
Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.
Seemingly similar power cable supplied with original monitor should have also been supplied with replacement monitor. Does the original power cable have any faults?
Please visit the replacement monitor's Service Request in your online Dell account to update, by saying that power cable was not included with replacement monitor, and will Dell give permission to retain power cable supplied with original monitor. Wait for response before original monitor and accessories are returned. Put copy of your Service Request in return transit container, just in case Dell makes arrangements to collect original monitor.
This should make it clear to Dell that you have given notice and requested Dell authorisation, just in case they try to bill you for not returning the original power cable.
This ensures that you continue to have a working Dell monitor.
Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

I'm not sure if this is correct (the laptop was bought as a present) Underneath it says the model number is P31E

Hi @Johnno thank you for sharing update.
Support for Alienware 17 R5 Ports and connectors says it has HDMI 2.0 port. What type of HDMI cable are you using?
If laptop's HDMI 2.0 port connected to your TV, is there a video image?
Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

Hello
The 3 HMDI/USB cables were in the location shown in the video, but not the power cable. I have rechecked the monitor carton and it is not in there.
If it was wrapped in a plastic bag as per the video it would have been extremely hard to miss!
What do I do now?
Could I get a power cable sent so I can return the old one in the carton with the old monitor?
