17 R5, GPU upgrade

Hello everyone! A quick question: is it possible to upgrade/replace a GPU in a new Alienware 17 R5?

Hi @AlmWiz,

The video card and the processor are inserted in the motherboard. Therefore, you must replace the motherboard to perform an update.

No. You could use external GPU.

How much would that cost, and would the same go for upgrading the processor? Would the service be covered by premium support plus, and can I upgrade the other components (ram, SSD, HDD) without voiding the warranty?

Cant upgrade the GPU or Processor as they are both soldered to the Motherboard.

Alienware doesn't offer motherboard upgrades, is not supported by support.

Only things you can upgrade without void warranty, is HDD/SSD and RAM. If you want a GPU upgrade, buy the Graphics Amp.

Hi @denzbs  Agree.

Support for Alienware 17 R5 Ports and connectors has (1) Audio/Video external graphics port for the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, and (2) USB external Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) port for eGPU enclosure.

These options are designed to give desktop GPU performance to laptop screen and/or external monitors. Dual eGPU possible on Alienware 17 R5 : eGPU (reddit.com)
