Alienware 17 r4 will not boot and has a tune
I opened the back side of my computer to clean my fan and my heat sink because it was making a grinding noise, after cleaning the computer and putting it back together, it refused to boot up and instead gives me a series of beeps instead. I’m wondering how to fix this and if my basic warranty will cover this getting fixed. All replies are appreciated :)

How many beeps and do you have any blinking lights as well? Also as long as you did not damage any components, the warranty is in force. Removing the back cover does not void the warranty. And Dell support pages describe the procedure for removing and reinstalling the fan and heatsink assemblies, so that would not void the warranty either...again as long as you did not damage any components in the process.

The blink code looks like an LCD failure, possibly a loose cable. But the moderator will take your information and can assist you in getting your laptop back to working properly again.

Quite so. You can connect an external monitor and I believe that F8 will switch the display to the external monitor. However if there is an error, the system may not let you switch monitors until the error is corrected. Plus when you try to switch, the options would show up on the laptop LCD and not on the external monitor until you choose one of the options...which would be on the LCD. Kind of a catch 22.

The code is actually 2.7 which is 2 red and 7 white. If all you did was clean it out hard to believe that the LCD was affected. I assume you used canned air to blow it out. And the fans are very close to the LCD cable, so possibly the cable is not fully inserted or possibly damaged. I would be looking carefully at the cable and connections.

I did take off the back panel and then revealed the motherboard to get at the fur (dog sheds a lot) that was stuck onto the heat sink. I’ll take a look at the display cable and report back if I accidentally damaged it if it came lose

Seems I may have broke a few pins while trying to clean the fan, if that voids the warranty I understand. I only wish to fix it and have it work again :)
