Area-51m R2, set your memory to run at 2933MHz?

I have an AWA51m R2, I have 64gigs 3200mhz ram in the machine, however the laptop will not allow me to use the ram at XMP mode at 3200mhz. I was wondering if the laptop has a "XMP profile two" setup to run 64gigs at 2933mhx?

Or should I use the Intel tuning tool and force the memory to run at that and would that break my warranty?

Hi @Modular laptop supporter  these are the RAM specifications for the Alienware Area-51m R2

So I called Dell Tech Support and spoke with David H on 12/10/2020.  I told him I have my own RAM sticks (Corsair Vengeance Performance 2x16GB @3200mhz).  I asked if it would be possible to run these at 3200mhz with XMP on my Area-51m R2.  I asked specifically if I would find myself locked out of the XMP feature in the BIOS because these sticks are not Dell-supplied.  He said the BIOS is not locked. He said yes I can turn on XMP in the BIOS and run these at 3200mhz.

He said that if the computer ends up crashing a lot or have performance problems, Dell just won't support it (won't help troubleshoot it) until I take out those sticks and revert back to the original configuration.  Only then will they support this machine again.

Let's start by you sending me the Area-51m R2 service tag via a private message. Just click my name. This way I can see what memory part numbers shipped on your laptop.

Your post is confusing...

If the memory is not currently running at 3200MHz, then it has to be already running at 2933MHz? Or am I just not understanding your post?

The laptop shipped with 32gigs 2933 memory.
So we shipped this Area-51m R2 with two 16GB DDR4 2933MHz memory sticks. Correct?

Then you removed our two 16GB DDR4 2933MHz memory sticks and installed two unknown 32GB DDR4 3200MHz memory sticks? Correct?

Your memory is only valid for 2666mhz only.
Only Dell supplied XMP memory modules are supported on the Area-51m R2. Third party XMP memory modules are not supported and Dell cannot know how the Area-51m R2 will respond to them.

Answered in ordered asked:

1. Yes.

2. Yes, and yes, you are correct.

3. yes, I understand that part, however, I was wondering if its "okay" for me to use the "Intel performance maximizer" (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/docs/processors/core/performance-maximizer.html) to force the memory to "2933" speed?

Newer question to add to this, I looked at your parts site for the AWA51m R2, and its selling memory modules, are those sold in pairs or single sticks?

Also, do you have a list of supported brands for Dell machines?

The laptop shipped with 32gigs 2933 memory. I have spare sodimm memory from other projects and put 64gigs of XMP enabled 3200mhz sodimm's into the machine.

I was wondering if its possible (because I've done it on other machines) to run the 64gigs at 2933mhz, because normally, unless an XMP profile is set, XMP enabled ram at 2666mhz.

I was hoping to set this in the Alienware command center, however it keeps telling me that "Your memory is only valid for 2666mhz only". Now, I know for a fact that the memory can clock at 3200mhz.

Intel has a tool you can download to intel machines that lets you tune the memory to whatever scale you wish (even over clocking it or under volting it)  to set the "mhz" to.

My question is "Is their a way to set this with out downloading that tool?" some other system types offer a second XMP profile for such occasions (such as asus's XMP profile 2 which under clocks XMP enabled ram). And "if I have to use the Intel tuning tool, will it void my warranty?"

Did you ever figure this out, by any chance? Please share an update!

The r2's run better at lower MHz and clock times and stick with bios build 1.0 or 1.1 till they fix memory power consumption.

I bought 2x 16g 3200 ram from dell direct put them in and went to overclocking in the bios. The bios showed that XMP is now an option but you cant enable it.
I then bought 2x 8g 3200 Ram from dell direct put them in and the same thing happened.
I bought a 2nd Alienware area 51m-R2  and had the same problem.
