Area-51m, constant loading noise (UPDATE* CPU Coil Whine)
Hello!
I'm currently getting help from Dell premium support about this matter, but would like to see if other people has this problem as well, or if it's even a problem at all.
A few seconds after I've booted up my computer this small little "Loading" sound starts like when you'd open a program and the computer "Thinks". The thing is that this noise is constantly on, which bugs me.
It's kind of a low sound, but enough that you always notice it, it also sounds a bit electric, and it comes from the inside in the middle of the computer.
Anyone else has this "problem" ? The computer runs just fine, it's just kind of annoying.

After more investigation I'm kind of sure to say that this is Coil Whine from the CPU area of the computer, after opening the bottom lid and locating the source of thew sound.
I have i7 9700k CPU. Other people seem to have Coil Whine too on the Area 51m. and also on this CPU on other computers.
Many people seem to have solved this through disabling the "c states" in the BIOS, HOWEVER Alienware doesnt seem to let you do that in the BIOS sadly enough.. So I hope they can fix this with BIOS updates soon instead.
I updated to the latest I think its something like 1.5.4 something.. The sound persists after the update. Possibly sounds a little bit less loud though, but I'm not sure anymore...
What I can also confirm is that the sound goes away when the Power cords are disconnected. So I guess the CPU gets too much power that doesnt get utilized (when it's in the c state). Once I start gaming / putting more load on the CPU I think the sound goes away a little too.
Dell swapped my Motherboard and nothing happened. I'm quite sure the CPU is the problem here. But I don't think changing to a new CPU will fix it either.. best bet is the BIOS / Intel Power settings

I'm having the same problem and it is driving me crazy since I'm using my 51m in my bedroom while my wife is sleeping. Did you contact the support? Did they change the motherboard? Mind is 8700 i7 and I don't know what I can do with this great laptop..

Hi @Cmputx486
Send me a private message (by clicking on my Alienware name) with the Alienware PC Service Tag number, a detailed explanation of the issue and the troubleshooting steps you have tried so far, so that you can review your case.
