m15 R6, boot into Bios with external monitor

Hi,

New here and I was looking through the community group posts. I wasn't able to find any solutions as of yet. I have a Alienware m15 r6 which has up-to-date drivers for windows and dell. I have tried looking in the bios for setting and have not found anything. I looked through the Dell's Setup and Specification.pdf with can be downloaded for this laptop and did not see anything there either which would solve my problem.

Problem:

I am running the laptop as a desktop. I have an external screen connected through HDMI. I have the laptop stowed away under the desk. Every time I need to get into the bios (rare, but still annoying), I need to unplug everything and pull the laptop out so I can view the native screen which it comes with. Does anyone at Dell or within this community know of any solutions?

I would think there would be away to send the signal out to the monitor while it is in the bios? These powerful laptops are desktop killers and yet no one has ever though to take this into account? This is my first "high end" laptop, like it overall, but I must be missing something because you would think this situation would have come up already.

Thank you for your guys help.

Thanks for the feedback Crimson.

I guess your statement would be true for laptops only because desktops with video card or from mother boards can send signal through HDMI before the OS is load, in my experience.

I was looking forward to hearing on a solution from the Alienware community because I don't have a lot of faith in dell support personnel to help me out with this matter.

Thought perhaps one of you have already had jumped this hurdle already.

Hi @BooigeOne welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

There is no solution to this issue. HDMI will only provide signal to external monitors when the operating system has loaded.

Thanks for the feedback.

I accept it, but don't understand why they would not want to provide such an ability. Hopefully Dell considers it for future builds. I can't imagine it would be that hard to have a bios option which enables send power and video signal to external monitor.
