The Coffee Lake processor supports a higher clock rate than Kaby Lake or older processors. That means these systems noticeably generate more heat and fan speed when compared to any previous generation of systems. Because of this, Dell engineering has designed the systems to tolerate higher temperatures. These are working as designed. The new specifications are:
* CPU peak temperature will be less than or equal to (≤) 100 ℃ * When under heavy load, the average temperature for the 13 R3, 15 R3/R4, 17 R4/R5 should be less than or equal to 95℃ * When under heavy load, the average temperature for the m15 and m17 should be less than or equal to 100℃
I have the M17R4, and that's pretty much average for me. I usually just run the thermals on Balanced setting. I've also created my own Thermal Profile that has a little more fan noise, but cools a little better. I think your good.
Those temps are fine but If you wanna extend the life of the laptop lock the laptop at 3.7Ghz. It will definitly lower the temps by alot and undervolting the CPU will reduce power consumption and thermals.
Also I recommend not having the screen at full brightness and when gaming with an external keyboard and mouse I recommend turning off the mouse by using FN+F11 it should say T-PAD.
Elevate the laptop too and make sure it has proper ventilation and also wipe it down if its oily or dirty with some isopropyl alchohol on a microfiber cloth.

This may help...it is a previous post from one of the moderator's. Not exactly the same, but pretty close.
Applicable systems = 13 R3, 15 R3/R4, 17 R4/R5, m15, m17

Yep, for what it's worth the 3080 runs pretty hot.
I use a wire-mesh laptop stand (tilts too)...my system breathes beautifully from below.
$15.

Basically normal. Worry if its consistently over 100C.

well it doesn’t mean that you can’t cool it down even more
