Avamar installation manager?
I feel this is a real dumb question... but...
I have been using the EM (and as the 7.1 docs says it is not going to be supported in the future) and working on setting up the BRM (Backup and Recovery Manger).
However.. looking at the doc to install Avamar Adaptor.. it says
In the Avamar Installation Manager. Select the Backup & Recovery Manager tab
.... so now that I have crawled out from under the rock...
What and where is this Installation Manager that I have never seen?

To be honest, I haven't installed the BRM Adaptor myself. Maybe somebody who's done it can jump in. If you're on 7.1, you don't need it as I mentioned. It's possible to access the Installer GUI without going through EM but the EM link is the easiest way to get there in current releases.

In the EM, clicking "System Maintenance" in the strip at the top will bring you to the Installation Manager GUI:
Yours may look different depending on what version you're running.
If you're running Avamar 7.1, the functionality formerly provided by the BRM Adaptor is now built into the Avamar Administrator Server so the Adaptor does not need to be installed separately.

Just spent half an hour looking at the page that comes up for System Maintenance
I cannot find anything - I am on 7.1
(and a bit confused if the EM is going away, in the future how are you going to do this if you don't have an EM or a BRM)

Ok, someone else want to chime in.
if I am on 7.1 the Installation manger is NOT there in the EM.
I don't have BRM set up yet, but I need the Installation Manager to finish it.
So how do you access the Installation manager without the EM???
I have search EMC support and all references are to the EM.

If I understood correctly, you need to add Avamar 7.1 to BRM -- I did this and it all worked for me
1. Log in as root user on the Avamar utility node or single node server:
su -
2. Run the following msgbrokerctl.pl command:
msgbrokerctl.pl --setup --brmhost=
You are prompted to enter a Backup & Recovery Manager username and password.
Optionally, you can specify the username and password for Backup & Recovery
Manager by using the msgbrokerctl.pl command parameters, --brmuser= ,
and --brmpass= .
3. Start the process:
msgbrokerctl.pl --start

It should also work without the port number:

I did this (msgbrokerctl.pl --setup --brmhost= ) successfully on one of our Avamar grids but on a second I got this error message:
Failed to configure RabbitMQ shovels
Anybody have any ideas how to fix this?

Hello Elizabeth,
What are the avamar versions on both and BRM version?
If possible stop all avamar firewalls before adding BRM.

BRM is version 1.2.1-13 and Avamar is 7.1.1.

This is a known issue. I would recommend that you open a service request for this issue.
