Backing up Lotus notes mailboxes/databases without using notes plugin

Hello All,

I am back with another newbie question which should be quite silly to many.

I am taking look at the the way backups were setup in one of the environments my client has and I saw something which kind of doesnt make sense to me.

Client has couple of (seperate not clustered) windows 2003 servers which function as Lotus domino server. It has windows and lotus avamar clients installed on the server but when I take a look at the dataset and how its defined on Avamar for this server it only shows windows plugin being used (as can be seen from the SS below).

What happens in this scenario? Does Avamar see all the .nsf files as flat files and back it up completely and not the changed data?

This particular server has alot of new data being sent to Avamar system.

Any input will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sri

Hello,

Are you shutting down the Domino service before backing up .nsf file

I think .nsf file can't be backed up properly using Window filesystem plugin, without shutting down the Domino service

Hi Sandeep,

Thanks for your reply, I just learned that this server is a replication destination. So lotus mailboxes/databases are replicated from other lotus domino servers to this one and from here Avamar backs it up (just like cold database backups).

Also, Domino services are not running on this box. So in this case does Avamar backup the .nsf files as flat files? If yes, how good does deduplication work in this scenario?
