Is there a free drive letter available on this system? GLR requires at least one free drive letter in order to mount the backup to the Exchange server.

If there are free drive letters available, I would recommend opening a service request for this issue.

how do I check for a free drive letter, because initially it used to assign a letter.

Open Explorer and review the list of drives under Computer. Unless there are 24 drive letters in use (A and B are reserved), there is a free drive letter.

only 4 drive letters are being used. So should I open a SR ?

hdoan, the behaviour you're describing sounds like a bug. What version of the client are you running on the Exchange server? Could you send me a PM with the log and some screenshots? If this is reproducible, I will file a bug report for it.

My experience with Ex 2010 GLR restore is if I browse the mailbox to view messages but do not restore any message and quit; the system mounts a temporary database but does not unmount and remove it.  I have to remove it manually then the next restore will succeed.

You can use Exchange Mgmt Console to view the databases under Organization Configuration -> Mailbox

I had the same issue. Checked and found that rdb with same name already was existing. So i got it deleted by Exchange admin and then i browsed the GLR. It worked fine. I was able to restore.

Metin.Bulut,

The issue described by OP isn't same as KB 480433.

And since, the original issue was posted back in 2012, this thread becomes inactive.
