Is Avamar Software Available for Windows

Question

I would like to know is Avamar software installable on Windows server or it only comes with Avamar Data Store

Thanks for your reply by SLES you mean SUSE Linux enterprise server and also want to clarify If its installable on Linux is it possible to take backup on tape directly or is it we need to take backup 1st on Disk and then transfer it to tape.

And where will I get evaluation software from since I tried on EMC site but it’s not available.

Hi Abbas,

Yes i mean the SUSE Linux enterprise server. Secondly, it is not a must to take first backup to disk and regarding the Avamar evaluation copy, there is no evaluation software for Avamar as this have to be installed on the Data Store , but you can download the Avamar Virtual Edition and have a trial on that version of Avamar. You can download it from the EMC Support Website:

If you're looking for backup software that backs up primarily to tape, Avamar is probably not what you are looking for. The Avamar server is a disk-based backup appliance. It is possible to export Avamar backups to tape using the various tape-out options (Extended Retention, Avamar Data Transport, Avamar Tape Out) but that is not the Avamar software's primary focus.

If you are looking for tape backup software, I would recommend looking at NetWorker.

Can you please tell me will my powerlink user will work to download this virtual edition since I am trying it with my powerlink user but its not accepting my user name and password kindly guide me on the same.
