Move avamar data from one data domain to another?
We have an avamar server that gets back up to a datadomain, we recently moved all the back up to a new data domain which we integrated into Avamar. The issue is we still have data that hasn't expired on the old data domain, does anyone know how to accomplish moving that data to our new data domain l to reclaim space on the old.

i don't think you can, how would you merge content from two different data domain storage units ? You decide to connect Avamar to a brand new DD and point datasets to it versus replicating Avamar storage unit to new DD ?

Yes I already added the second DD to avamar, and point the dataset and all back ups to the new data domain. So nothing is going to the old DD but it is still in avamar and there is still old avamar back ups sitting on it, I'm thinking there has to be away to move that data over to the new either by using avamar or Data Domain to Data Domain.

In a scenario where you're planning to replace a Data Domain attached to an Avamar, the best thing to do is use MTree replication to replicate the existing data to the new DD before adding it to Avamar. This procedure is outlined in the "Data Domain system replacement" technical note but this document may be restricted to EMC and partners. Unfortunately, it sounds like it's too late for that.
If there is already Avamar data on the new DD, your options are much more limited. It may be possible to migrate the data using ADMe. Adam Kirkpatrick should be able to give you more information on whether this would be practical.

Is this old data from Avamar or another application? If it's from another application, is it in it's own mtree? You could replicate that data from the old DD to the new DD with mtree replication.
However, if it's old Avamar data that hasn't expired, dynamox has suggested a possible solution.
Let us know if that helps!

Hi,
is that also possible if avamar is attached to 2 smaller DDs? Can you replace 2 smaller DDs with one big DD box?
In this case avamar has the same avamar mtree name on both DD boxes.
Won't the replicated data from the 1st DD be overwritten when you start mtree replication from the 2nd DD to the 3rd DD?
