On demand VM Image backup - How to specify specific Proxy
I am new to Avamar and have set up a fairly complex proxy environment to match our VirtualCenter environment. I manage which proxies to use for each VM backup by the policy\group. This is working great. But if I have a failed backup for a VM image and I try to run a on demand backup the next day I see NO way to specify a specific proxy to use. It randomly picks one that could be across the country. Is there a way to specify a proxy for a manual vm image backup ?
Before you ask I have a script that runs each night that sets all proxies to use all datastores. This keeps me from missing backups if we add new datastores during the day. So I understand why the on demand is picking proxies I don't want it to use, I am looking for a way around this.
Thanks!!

when you do the on demand backup - are you making sure you pick the correct Group
that window comes up and usually by default it show the default group.
are you using the pull down and picking the group that the nightly backups use?
if you pick a group it will use the properties of that group.
so if you pick the same group the nightly backups run from it should run the same.

Interesting, In the Avamar Administrator client using the "backup and restore" tab. then navigating down into the container clients domain, selecting the VM and choosing Backup Now. There is NO option to select a group. This is the obvious place to start a backup I would think.
But did some digging and I see now what you suggest. By opening the Policies tab and navigating to the VM and selecting backup client now I do get the "use properties of the group" option. But it only shows me by default the only group in that domain "Containers client group". My groups are defined at a higher level in the domain. I will attempt to create new policies\groups at this level and see if they are then selectable and see if that works... Thanks for the suggestion.

that should not be true
I also have sub domains
vcenter
windows (here is where my groups are)
dev (here is where I have clients)
prod (here is where I have clients)
So long as my Client is a member of a group OTHER than the default (meaning a group I have created under windows)
when I say backup the client it gives me a pull down - one is the default group, and one is the other group he belongs to.
verify that client (in policy edit client) go to the group tab and verify he belongs to the group you think he should be in.
