SharePoint 2010 Installation and setup
Hi all,
Has anyone succesfully managed to setup correct a Sharepoint 2010 system into Avamar. I have been following the manual which is frankly useless when it comes down to understanding what should be 'front end' or 'back end' during the installation choices and I am also getting some strange errors during install.
It is also not very helpful when it comes to understanding what services should be running such as VSS and under what user accounts.
I have the following 'Dev' sharepoint environment
1 x Web server that users connect to.
3 x Sharepoint backend services servers
2 x SQL servers hosting the databases.
Install questions:
Should I install and then register the Avamar client to a grid BEFORE installing the Sharepoint plugin?
Which of the above should be a 'front end' install and which should be a 'back end' install
Should I install the 'front end' first or does the order not matter
Other questions:
Wht depedant services are required to be running either pre or post install
What user accounts should these services be running under?
Is the best way to test success to ensure I can browse the sharepoint 'tree' as part of the data-set defination?
If this is 'in the manual' whereabouts should I be looking?
Thanks for the help.

SharePoint 2010 supported with avamar version 6 onwards. Only one WFE server in a farm can have front end component of SharePoint VSS plugin installed no matter how many WFE servers you have in the same farm and the rest all including SQL server will have back end component installed. You can also follow below article for service account related info

You need to backup and browse entire farm from WFE having front end component installed.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Hi Paul,
You have to install the Front-end plug-in for only one server in the farm, which is the web front-end server ( The web server you have mentioned that users connect to )
Select Back-end plug-in for all other servers in the farm” the applications servers, database servers, and other web front-end servers ( this means for the other 5 servers in your farm )
Installation Order is not a matter.
Hope this helps you.
