SharePoint VSS Backup Failing (2013)
Hello,
------------------------------------------------------------
Background:
SharePoint 2013 Farm running on 2012 R2
2012 R2 SQL
Avamar v 7.2
--------------------------------------------------------------
My SharePoint 2013 Avamar backups started failing with this error (See attachment please). I installed -as usual- the Front-end and Back-end plugins and registered them to the Avamar Administrator console. All backups are running but the SharePoint VSS.
Any has seen this before?
Thanks dudes and dudettes....
Adam

Would it be ok to tell me what you are looking for as this is on a very sensitive server. I can't post the whole log here?
The log I attached above are the last 'failure lines' from the Avamar Gui log.
Thanks again Prakash,

Please extract the failure Message from the Avamar GUI and paste it here, if that's possible.

Hi Adam,
This is the same thing which you had attached earlier in the discussion and does not have the details about the error, if the information cannot be shared, then I advise that you open up a Support Ticket.

Here is a snapshot of the Avamar GUI Activities widows with the failure error 10007 and attached is the full log.
Sorry for not being able to attach these before. I did also attach the full log to the original post above.
Thanks again,

Thanks Adam,
I have checked the log and can't say anything concrete from it, it would be better if you can open a Support Case. You can also check the below requirements and make sure they are met,
1. Install Front-end Client on One of the Web Front End Server
2. Install Back-End Client on all Other Servers (Including DB, Web, Search, ADM, APP)
3. Registered the wsswriter on the Web front End Server where you have installed the Front-End Client
The default location for the tool depends on the SharePoint version:
l SharePoint 2013
%COMMONPROGRAMFILES%\microsoft shared\web server extensions\15\bin
To use the tool, log in as an administrator on the local computer, and type the following command at the command prompt:
stsadm.exe -o registerwsswriter
4. Are you able to browse the SharePoint Farm and DB's from Avamar GUI ?
5. Below Permissions are set
Avamar Plug-in for SharePoint VSS agent service account privilege requirements
The Avamar Plug-in for SharePoint VSS agent service and the SharePoint administrator
must run with the same domain account.
Also, domain-level administrator rights are required to perform a backup or federated
farm restore (a full farm restore of a distributed farm). The SharePoint administrator
account for installation and configuration of the SharePoint farm is typically a member of
the Administrators group on each server, and can be used for the federated restore.
To use an administrator account other than the one used to install SharePoint:
l Add the SharePoint administrator account to the domain administrators group.
l Assign the “Log on as a service” right to the SharePoint administrator account on
each server that runs any of the SharePoint services.
Specify this setting in Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows
Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > Log on as a
service.
SharePoint 2013 farm administrator account requirements
Backup and restore of a SharePoint 2013 requires that the specified farm administrator
account has Shell Admin Privileges. Use the Add-SPShellAdmin PowerShell command
to provide these credentials. Consult Microsoft documentation for information about
using PowerShell commands.
Avamar Backup Agent service requirements
The Avamar Backup Agent service must be running as LocalSystem on all machines.

I did all the recommended steps. One thing I am noticing is that when I browse the Windows SharePoint VSS tree from the Avamar GUI from the backup tab, (after I enter the SP Farm credentials) I don't see the SharePoint server instance next to the DB and the Search Application. I know then that the backup will fail until all three servers show (SP+DB+SearchApp).
Thanks again,
Adam--
