Using variable/wildcards in a Windows Filesystem Dataset
Hello Everyone...
I'm setting up a dataset for our desktop/laptop Windows users. We need to backup the entire C:\ drive of everyone's desktop/laptop.
So when I'm creating the dataset, I select Enter Explicitly. Under Select Plug-In Type, I choose Windows File System. Then I check Select Files and/or Folders: Here I enter (for example) c:\Users\dlemley\Documents.
What I'm trying to accomplish is this; I want to replace "dlemley" in the path above and set some sort of variable or wildcard. For example...when you are in Windows and go to Start>Run, you can type c:\users\%username%\documents and it will open the logged in users' documents folder.
The %username% variable does not work in Avamar as stated in their Systems Admin guide.
Does anyone know of another way to accomplish this?
I don't want to back up the entire C:\ drive as previously stated and I don't want to create a new dataset for every user.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thx,
Dave

I came across the same this.
If you have a need for a wildcard use *.
So for example
C:\users\*\documents
This will grab every user's docs folder and leave everything else untouched.
