Windows backups with BMR (VSS plugin)

Hello all,

We're seeking to create a policy for our data center that will backup Windows systems including the BMR option. From the reading I've done you need to include the VSS option, in our data set policy we have:

Windows - All local Windows filesystems

Windows - VSS

Are both of these data set policies needed, or is only the VSS plugin needed to backup a Windows server?

I ask because we're seeing our backups actually kick off 2 backup jobs, which is running over time and failing.

Thank you kindly,

Steven

i had a couple of instances where VSS backup was failing so i run them at different times.

I guess I'm a bit confused, I'm reading the EMC Avamar 7.0 for Windows Server User Guide, and it doesn't indicate that there should be any conflict by running both the VSS and the Windows File System plugins in the same data set.

Did you see the same issues we're experiencing?

Thanks,

Steven

for my windows boxes, i created two datasets, one is used just for local file systems, and another is configured with VSS ("Create Disaster Recovery Backup" option checked). I use two different backup groups, they run at different times.
