2TB SATA disk @ 7200 rpm ???
Hi All,
I have a simple question.
For a CX4-240 with the latest FLARE code:
Does EMC have 2TB SATA drives available that spin at 7200 RPM ?
(I know they have the 5400...)

Yes, 2TB 7200 RPM SATA drives were released recently and can be ordered now.

I didn't think they were out yet either as they didn't show up in the latest FLARE OE drive matrix for the CX4 arrays, but I just ordered 15 for one of my arrays. They didn't cust much more than the 1TB 7.2k RPM drives either

Wow, unless my calculations are wrong (just really quick off the cuff) you could easily deploy a CX4-960 with over 1.3PB! Using the new High Density racks this could sit in only 3 x 42u cabinets that are only a couple of inches deeper than the standard cabinets. That's even taking into account the loss for using RAID6 since the rebuild times would be painful otherwise.
Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard....
Now I just have to find someone to fund it :-)

Just think - you could make that one, huge metaLUN (then talk about rebuid times)

Hi AranH,
I indeed checked the FLARE OE Matrix as well, but this still only shows the matrix for FLARE 28, whilst FLARE 29 is being used for new CX4 units coming out of the factories now...
Good to hear you have been able to order them already
