CX300 Wont recognize replacement drive

Failed 36gb ST336752FC drive. The hot spare took over just fine. This is a raid 1 raid group. I replaced the failed drive with the exact same emc part number of 005047879. The slot will not recognize the new drive. I took the same drive and populated an empty slot and the drive initialized just fine and i was able to configure it as another hot spare. However, the slot where the failed drive was removed from only shows a failure and that the drive is removed. So i know i have a good drive but cannot get the slot, where the failed drive came from, to recognize a new replacement drive.

I had the same problem with our CX500.  If you replace the drive too quickly, the system won't recognize the replacement drive as new.  When you take the bad disk out, wait a minute or so. That way the CX will have a chance to know that the disk is missing  and will look for the new one.

When this didn't work once, it ended up being a bad disk slot and the EMC CE had to replace the tray.

Thanks, Jeff.

The drive has been out for a while now and i still just see the failed status and the message properties showing a status of removed. I've taken the new replacement drive out for now. I'm going to try a reboot this weekend during non-production and see if anything changes from that.

Sometimes a slot gets locked - a power off of the DAE is sometimes required. Power dow DAE and then insert drive, then power on - this is on DAE. Sometime this does not clear the slot and a power cycle of the SP at the same time is required - same steps as above except power off SP's first, the power off DAE, power on DAE, then power on SP's.
