CX4 - add CX3 DAE

Hello!

We have 2 old arrays: CX3-20 and CX4-120. In order to optimize the managament of arrays and reduce energy consumption we decided to remove DAE from CX3 and add it to CX4, because enclosures of arrays are identical.

Now there is a question about existing data from CX3 DAE - when we add DAE to CX4 what will happen with it? Should we migrate everything because data loss is unavoidable?

Thanks!

Are you planning to move enclosures from the CX3 with the data still intact?  If so, this will not work.  You will not be able to move the enclosures with the data still available - you will need to create new RAID groups when the enclosures are added to the CX4.

Yes, Data loss is unavoidable should you choose to follow what you mentioned without data migration or valid data backup to be restored after physical movement of the DAEs.

While you are considering moving DAEs, Please be aware that any hard drive from DAE which you are moving is not a part of a RAID Group carved from a DPE or working DAE which you are not moving. That will cause RG Failure even though few disks are in working DAE.

OK, I see, we will migrate our data as we supposed to do.

Thanks for help!
