Difference between RAW and USABLE storage capacity
Hi all,
I have been trying to figure out the difference between my RAW storage and USABLE storage. I have figured out where most of the difference has come from between RAID 5, and 146's actually being equivalent to 133.65 and so on for each disk size. Besides those two things what else might be responsible for the difference between RAW and USABLE storage numbers?
Thanks in advance,
PJK

A couple prior threads on this general topic are at;
http://forums.emc.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=68109
and

Note that if the drives in question are in the Vault (first 5 drives in a CX storage system) there is additional capacity reserved, as compared to the remaining drives in the array (see the second posting above).
If the above do not answer your question, it would help if you can post the specific figures you are seeing, and what the configuration is.

In addition, the EMC CLARiiON Storage System Fundimentals for Performance and Availabilty available shortly over Powerlink contains a higher-level description of the difference. This will be available over Powerlink by the end of the month.
