First of all - welcome to the EMC Forums.

On Navisphere, you can set the Host ID(HLU) of a LUN - which may be you are looking for. Go to the Storage Group property - under the LUN allocated tab - on the bottom pane once you add the LUNs - there is a field on the right side called "Host ID" - if you don't see this column - either maximize the screen or go to the right side you 'll see this column. Select the appropriate Host ID you want to assign to a LUN for that host.

Thanks,
Sandip

Hi Sandip,

Thanks for your quick reply and warm welcome. I was not able to locate the options that you are talking about. I'm using Navisphere 6.26.2.0.2 and managing a CX3-10c on flare 03.26.101.5.011 .

I think what has happened is you are mistaking what I'm asking. I already know how to change the host LUN ID assignment to a virtual disk. What I was hoping to find was a trick to changing the longer unique lun id or UID, or WWID of the device as seen on the SAN and by the host such as 6006-0160-9A30-1B00-50D2-9BA6-1626-DF11

That longer number is somehow stored in Linux and Device Mapper in a way that a new cloned lun cannot be booted unless multipath is disabled. So I'm approaching this solution from two directions. One to find a fix on the Linux side and a potential work around on the Clariion EMC side also.

It looks like I CANNOT change the UID of the lun at the Navisphere end.

I also seem to have learned that MIGRATION does build a new duplicated lun same as the old one but the new one does NOT take over the full identity of the old one. Or at least it does not assume the old lun's long unique UID.

This is all low priority testing. We use powerpath as our normal solution but in this case we are just testing with Device Mapper multipath only to broaden our knowledge and prepare for customer scenarios. Getting one step ahead of the game etc.

I don't expect this to be a problem with our normal Linux, PowerPath, Clariion solution package.

Thanks

Doug
