Storage Pool Performance Calculator
Hi,
I know there are a number of ways of calculating RAID Group Performance figures but is there one for storage pools? Or for example a R5 pool do I work out the figures for a 4+1 and then multiply by the amount of these that make up the pool assuming that best practice is used.
Also I have 60 * 600FC disks for VMware datastores and server LUNS does it make sense to create 2 seperate pools or one big one?
I have read the best practice guides and still can't make a decsion any help welcomed
CX4-480 with Flare 30
Thanks

Sorry for the late reply - I would create pools based on expected usage rather than one large, single pool. Since you can not predicte how the data will be laid out within the pool, you might have different types of data access requirements - random vs. sequential, large blobk vs small block. Also, you should make sure you use all the back-end buses on the array - the CX4-480 has four back end buses, split the disks between the buses.
Also, if you have applications that must have the best performance, you're better off using raid groups/metaLUNs
