Unattended hosts and possible problems?
Hi,
We have EMC Clariion CX700 SAN and IBM Blade servers.
In Navisphere console agent on some hosts are not reachable, some hosts are manually registered, some hosts are unknown and some host are ok.
Also some host are registered with wrong IP address (that culd be because of wrong network card bindings).
Can this misconfiguration lead to problems?
Also we boot host from SAN and have page files on the same boot LUN. Is this a problem or will be problem?
THX
Regards,
Dejan

It will in no way affect your actual storage connectivity, only the management information. The only way it can affect your storage connectivity is if the host objects get confused and you accidentally allocate new LUNs to the wrong host because of it... or remove a LUN from the wrong host. You just need to watch carefully to make sure this doesn't happen.

Hello Dejan, and welcome to the Forums!
I'm afraid I can't answer your questions on boot from SAN, but as for the NaviSphere Manager registration info on hosts, the only way this will cause a problem is if you need to see the information about how hosts are using the LUNs. Or possibly if IP addresses conflict there can be some confusion of host objects in Navi Manager. If you don't need to see how LUNs are used, and don't have any issues with conflicting IP addresses confusing the host objects, then it's entirely up to you on how to proceed. Personally I like to keep everything as neat and clean as possible, but if that means having to shut down, unregister, and reregister a production host, I'm not sure I would go that far without a better reason.
