powerpath command to adjust HBA port speed

I have one HBA with 4Gbps speed and 1 with 8 Gbps speed on the same node.

Need to configure my powerpath to negotiate both cards with 4Gbps speed.

How can i do this, is there something required on Cisco mds switch side as well to be done?

This is a windows server.

No, there will be no issue from the Powerpath, as at any point of time PP uses one active path. It also depends on the type of Policy you set. In that case the speed(4GB or 8 Gb) does not matter. But EMC recommends to use the same type of card with the same speed.

Hi,

If want to set or change the speed of a HBA to 4Gbps, you can set from the Cisco Switch for the Port in which that HBA would connect. This ensures the speed is set to 4Gbps.

There is no command or option from Powerpath for the speed settings.

Thanks

Thanks for the response Madhu.

I was wondering, if there could be some complications from powerpath, if we connect 2 HBAs with different speeds to the same device/LUN.

what do you mean PP uses only one path ? If i have two HBAs and each is zoned to SPA and SPB ..licensed PP will distribute the load to both HBA simultaneously.

I just wanted to mention, that in regards to server connectivity, our support statement related to this conversation is as follows:

Fibre Channel HBAs from the same HBA vendor, server bus type, and Fibre Channel link speed are required

So assuming the OP's server has HBA's from the same vendor and they are not of mixed bus type such as one card riding PCIe and the other PCI-X for instance, then Nishant should be compliant once he configures each card to use the same speed as already described above either via switch port setting and/or HBA utility (SANsurfer or OneCommand)/HBA BIOS.
