Is creating netbios ( name space ) and creating DFS root share the best way to proceed to migrate and consolidate all windows file servers ?

You dont need a DFS root for that
Why do you want to use DFS?

Just trying to do the correct way - We have 6 file servers that we plan to consolidate , so wanted to US DFS root and create shares under that for more robost functionality . So what would be best just to create one to one Virtual Windows file server 2003 and mimic them in data movers ?

In a Windows AD environment, DFS is generally where you want to be. But since you aren't there (yet), you can create either multiple CIFS servers on your Celerra or assign all of the names to one "CIFS" server using aliases. Using aliases can be confusing though as end-users see the same data on two different servers and try to help you by cleaning up the duplicates
DFS isn't rocket science and aside from providing a unified namespace for all of your data it works great when you want to move data around which inevitably happens.

Where and how can we check if we are using it DFS root . I don't see that in our DC's ( DFS mgmt) , is there a way we can find out , if not we will just do it straight and simple , one to one for all the Virtual servers.
