Move file system and associated CIFS server between VDMs
I have 3 VDMs on a NS480 with multiple file systems and CIFS servers under each VDM. We have a second NS480 at another site with replication established between all FS and VDMs. I would like to move a FS and it's associated CIFS server from one VMD on to another
on the same DM in order to group them more functionally. Can this be done while preserving the CIFS server, it's shares, all permissions on the directories and files and the replication session? If so, how do I go about it?
thanks

moving the file system between VDMs shouldnt be the problem.
just stop the replication, change the mounts and start it again.
As far as moving the CIFS server goes I suggest to contact your local EMC technical contact and ask him to submit an RPQ.
As far as I know there is no customer-facing command to do that but there might be an internal procedure for it.
If you have a minute time please fill out a product enhancement request (PER) through Powerlink
just go Support -> Request Support -> Request a Product Enhancement
Your other option would be to create a new CIFS server and copy the shares and local groups using lgdup and sharedup
Any individual ACLs on the files and directories will of course stay intact when you move the file system - which is nothing more than an umount/remount

just as for moving a CIFS server from a physical data mover to a VDM there are ways, but you need to get an approved procedure from engineering
