How to remove Xyratex enclosures from rails?
Hi,
Moving our Compellent series 40 and Xyratex enclosures to new racks in our datacentre tomorrow, and I remember the installer told me the enclosures are a pain to remove from the rails. Is there a simple way to get the Xyratex enclosures out of the rails without too much hassle?
Cheers
JD

Ought to add Compellent know about this and I have logged a call with them to check it over before I shut down and reinstall, I'll also be upgrading the firmware whilst I have the downtime.

They pull out if its the mostly modern Xyratex enclosures. Older ones have lock tabs.

Depending on the Xyratex enclosure, there are extending rails, just fixed units. The older ones have screws and are easier to install (and remove) when all of the enclosures are out of the rack.
Keep in mind that moving a Compellent requires some procedures to be executed - if you havent paid someone to do this, then get with Copilot PRIOR to moving anything (or shutting anything off)

Ah, you misunderstand - removing the rails is easy, it's getting the enclosures out of the rails that is apparently a pain. That's the bit I could do with some info on!
